Who We Are
The Civic Responsibility Advocacy Group (CRAG)-Kenya is a non-partisan civic responsibility advocacy, research, citizen engagement and capacity-strengthening organisation.
CRAG works to promote civic responsibility as a lived public value that shapes how citizens, communities, institutions and public leaders act in public life. Our work is grounded in the belief that a functioning society depends not only on rights and services, but also on responsible citizenship, ethical action, accountable leadership and care for the common good.
What We Focus On
CRAG’s work is organised around civic responsibility as the central idea. Our current thematic focus is on democracy, elections and governance, and climate change management and mitigation. These themes reflect urgent public issues where responsible citizenship, ethical leadership, informed participation and accountable systems are needed.
As CRAG grows, these thematic areas may expand. However, our core identity remains the same: advancing civic responsibility as a public value that strengthens how citizens, communities, institutions and leaders contribute to the common good.

Democracy & Governance
CRAG promotes responsible political participation, ethical leadership, electoral integrity, public accountability and active citizen engagement across the full electoral cycle.
Climate Responsibility
CRAG promotes civic responsibility in climate change management and mitigation by strengthening citizen awareness, community participation, environmental stewardship and public accountability in climate action.
FLAGSHIP CAMPAIGN
Break the Cycle
Break the Cycle is CRAG-Kenya’s six-year civic responsibility campaign, with implementation planned from August 2026 to August 2032. The campaign examines how citizen choices and conduct across the electoral cycle influence electoral integrity, political accountability, leadership and public service delivery.
It advocates for informed, issue-based and continuous citizen participation before, during and after elections. Through evidence-led public engagement, Break the Cycle seeks to challenge transactional political participation and promote a culture in which citizens recognise and exercise their responsibility for shaping Kenya’s democracy.
How We Work
CRAG combines evidence-led advocacy, research, citizen engagement, policy dialogue, capacity strengthening and strategic partnerships to make civic responsibility visible, practical and sustainable across public and community life.
Advocacy
We use non-partisan, evidence-led advocacy and public-interest messaging to make civic responsibility visible and encourage ethical participation in public life.
Research
We generate and share evidence on citizen behaviour, public attitudes and civic participation so that advocacy, policy dialogue and public engagement respond to lived realities rather than assumptions.
Citizen Voice & Community Engagement
We create inclusive spaces where citizens and communities can reflect, share lived experiences, question public decisions and help shape civic conversations, policy priorities and public action.
Policy Dialogue & Enabling Systems
We engage policymakers, public institutions and other stakeholders to advocate for policies, legislation and institutional practices that support ethical conduct, accountability, inclusion and meaningful public participation.
Capacity Strengthening
We develop practical tools, learning resources and engagement support that enable citizens, community actors, institutions and public-interest partners to advance civic responsibility within their own spaces.
Convening & Strategic Partnerships
We bring together citizens, communities, government, civil society, media, academia, the private sector and other public-interest actors to build shared understanding and coordinated action around the common good.
